Many university graduates with bachelors in clinical medicine have been stopped from practising. The commission for Higher education (CHE) recently discredited the course offered by some leading universities terming it irrelevant. Many students have graduated with the clinical medicine degree from the said universities since 2009. Sadly, they will probably have to seek alternative employment or go back to class in accredited institutions. The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union has termed the training ‘fake’, saying it cannot be relevant in a field that requires high competence and skill. Over 700 graduates currently in various hospitals countrywide were ordered to stop giving any medical services. Instead, they were asked to join accredited institutions. “The affected universities are not allowed to offer clinical medicine and surgery degrees. The teaching methodologies and facilities at the said universities are not adequate enough to for the course,” A staff from the union told Campus Vibe correspondent.
